Located in Seattle, Nook & Cranny is an independent bookstore specializing in world lit, translated works, and queer lit. Ever since moving locations from a busy street in Capitol Hill to a quiet neighborhood in University District, foot traffic slowed.
My goal as a social media intern was to develop a content strategy campaign that aimed to strengthen their online brand presence. My work included creating a content calendar, building a strong brand voice with consistent visuals, and promotional content that showcased their books and events. I managed their Instagram and Facebook accounts using Meta Business Suite.
I created a variety of static posts and reels for Instagram and Facebook that showcased the store’s inventory and brand. Posts included :
Book Recommendations
This post capitalized on the newly released Guillermo del Toro adaptation of Frankenstein.
I designed an eye-catching cover, book recs with blurbs, and wrote a long-form caption.
This post received more views and interactions compared to their other recent Instagram posts.
What Would Rory Gilmore Read?
The cover post matched the character’s (Rory Gilmore) aesthetic while adhering to Nook & Cranny’s signature colors (teal and mustard yellow).
If You Like Hamnet, Then Read These Books
This post capitalized on the newly released adaptation of Hamnet.
Instead of doing blurbs, I created easily scannable slides of the book recs.
The Concept
I created a “What to Read” series that tied-in trending movies, books, and pop culture characters to Nook & Cranny’s niche book selection.
The Goal
These posts increased engagement with users by jumping on trending content that showcased the store’s unique personality.

The Concept
This weekly “Shelfie Highlights” series showcased the different genre shelves in Nook & Cranny. However, instead of doing general genre highlights like “fantasy” or “sci-fi,” these posts displayed the unique shelves at the store.
The Goal
These posts showed the “indie” side of Nook & Cranny and why readers should come and check out the store.
“Dying for a Mystery” Shelf
“Indigenous Voices” Display
In honor of National Native American Heritage month, Nook & Cranny put up a table highlighting stories by “indigenous voices.”
I filmed and edited clips of the of display into a polished reel, giving viewers a quick and concise look into what books are featured.
